Reigniting a relationship is one of the most common challenges married couples face. It’s no surprise that the novelty and intensity of a new romance is fleeting, so how do marriages survive once the initial passion has faded? Love, respect and companionship breathe life to a new type of romance, one fueled by friendship, support and intimacy. When you get back to the basics by refocusing your attention on you and your partner, thinking outside of the box and making alone time a priority, rekindling the flame is easier than you think. And we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Date Night

As we age, our lives become increasingly hectic, leaving less and less time for ourselves and our personal relationships. Rebuilding the romance means putting in the man hours, and let’s be honest, you’ve probably long since abandoned your own version of date night. Now is the time to reinstate this important tradition. Date night allows you to connect on a more intimate and romantic level. Instead of hashing through the day’s hardships, talk about each other or your goals – always keeping the conversation light, positive and fun. Remind one another how much you both need and truly enjoy this alone time together. This also gives you opportunity to get dressed up and feel extra confident in your appearance.

Get Active

If things have been a bit lackluster as of late, exercise could be the culprit – or rather, a lack thereof. Consistent exercise not only helps to boost the mood, increase energy levels and promote more restful sleep, but it also positively impacts your sex drive. Routine workouts also help to regulate weight, and nothing makes you want to take your clothes off like feeling good about your body. Encourage your partner to join you a few times a week to prompt more togetherness.

Couples Getaway

Escape your routine, and indulge in a romantic getaway. Maybe there is a vineyard you’ve always wanted to visit, or perhaps your husband has mentioned a golf course at a destination resort. Removing yourself from your environment and escaping the stress and hustle and bustle of your everyday life can help you both refocus your attention on each other. Grab a couples massage together, followed by a candlelit dinner with a view. Take a relaxing hike or try a new activity together. These types of experiences bring couples together and can greatly help to rekindle the romance as well as your sense of adventure.

Don’t Be Afraid of Sensuality

Sometimes reigniting the flame means getting in touch with your senses: taste, touch, smell and sight. Touching produces arousal – even something as subtle as holding hands or embracing for a hug. Introduce a visual element with beautiful lingerie or laced panties. Slow things down and reacquaint yourself with your partner’s likes and dislikes. Preferences change as you age, and it’s likely that what once gave you or your partner pleasure has changed. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or try something new. Be open to one another’s advances, and always remember to communicate.
