Spa and Travel Review: JW Marriott Marquis Miami

JW Marriott

By Michele McIntyre –

Arriving in thriving downtown Miami is quite a culture shock after spending a week in the laid-back island vibe known as the Florida Keys. But that’s exactly what I did on a recent Friday afternoon with my family for a quick stopover before flying out of MIA the next morning. We checked into the hopping JW Marriott Marquis Miami; our first impression is that of a luxury hotel for business travelers, with its attached impressive meeting facilities, bustling lobby and glamorous chandeliers. When we explored further, we found that the property has so much more to offer.

Our home for the night is room 3705, a king bay view guest room on one of the upper floors of the hotel. No expense has been spared to furnish and outfit our luxury room: we want for nothing. The spa-lover in me appreciated the generous supply of Aromatherapy Associates bath products and the spa-inspired marble bathroom with separate tub and shower. Espresso lovers will appreciate the illy Café espresso maker. Our son notices the TV embedded in the bathroom mirror and proceeds to consider this his personal entertainment center.

After a night stay at the JW Marriott Marquis, I am totally spoiled and may be ruined forever! Up on the 37th floor, we have unbelievable views of the Miami River, Biscayne Bay and the surrounding city. Award-winning technology surrounds us throughout the hotel, particularly in our guest room, which is equipped with 3 phones including a portable phone that can be used throughout the hotel. There is even a desktop computer with complimentary Internet access.

As guests of the desirable 37th floor, we have access to the concierge lounge one floor below. Midday the lounge is stocked with hot and cold beverages and snacks. We regret that we have to leave before breakfast the next morning because the view is absolutely stunning.

But the fun really starts on the 19th floor, a haven for families and adventurists with a 3D media room, billiards room, virtual bowling alley, Jim McClean golf school and pro shop and a stainless steel infinity rooftop pool. And I haven’t even mentioned the 10,000 square foot NBA approved indoor basketball court. Everything is state of the art and ultra-hip. You just can’t escape those fabulous views and the 20th floor full-service Rik Rak Spa and Salon, state of the art Technogym fitness center and yoga studio is no exception.

Our only regret? Departing the luxury and sophistication of the JW Marriott Marquis in the wee morning hours to make our 7:30 am flight. And watching the downtown nightclub scene just start to die down just before the sun rose into the Miami sky.
