Decisions, Decisions

Galatians 6: 7-8; Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

What was the first decision you made today? Should I hit the snooze button, again? What am I going to wear to work? What am I going to do with my hair? Every waking minute of our lives compels us to constantly make choices. From the minute we open our eyes in the morning until we close them at night, we have made hundreds of decisions that impact our day and ultimately, our lives.

For those who are confident in themselves, decisions are made based on certain factors. But when life has not gone the way we wanted it to, oftentimes, we become fearful of making the wrong decision, so we don’t make any decision at all. Unfortunately, no decision is actually a decision itself – and probably not the one in our best interest. Life is about making decisions – some good and some bad. It’s the lessons we learn from the bad decisions that should shape our ability to begin making good decisions.

We all wish we could go back and make a better choice at some point in our lives. But yesterday is gone, we can’t change yesterday’s choices but we can change how we allow those choices to influence our decisions today. If we concentrated on what could have been or should have been, we’ll miss opportunities for a better tomorrow. Have you ever wondered; how did I get myself into this mess? This mess is the consequence of a choice you made and we live with those consequences. So if your life isn’t exactly what you thought it would be, you need to take a look at some of the choices you made along the way.

If you don’t want your life to continue the way it is, you are going to have to change the choices you make. Yesterdays choices determine today’s situation; today’s choices will determine tomorrows situation.  How often have you made a decision because it was what someone else wanted us to do? When we allow people, situations or circumstances to influence our choice, the consequence is often not what we want, and we have to live with it!

It is so easy to blame someone else for our condition, especially if it wasn’t our decision in the first place. God gave us all the right to make decisions and we’ve got to understand that our personal choices affect our lives. Scripture teaches us that we will reap what we sow and our decisions come from what’s in our hearts.

What’s in your heart? What are your choices going to be today?
