The summer party season is officially here, which means we are going to be in tempting situations that make us want to overindulge. It’s important that you are aware of your true hunger pains. This keeps your self-control and healthy choices in check. Here are 5 solid ways to help you enjoy the party without feeling party remorse.

1) Always eat a healthy meal before you go to a party. If you eat before the party, you won’t be hungry and grab all that great BBQ or fried food that’s being served.

2) Drink a glass of water or club soda after every alcoholic beverage intake. This way, you won’t get tipsy or eat every hors d’oeuvre you see on those food filled trays. Alcohol tends to make people eat more than they ordinarily might and to make wrong choices. It also has many calories. So, choose your drink wisely. Also drink from smaller size cups or cans if must have soda or beer. While using smaller cup,s you won’t realize that you are drinking less. (The same concept works with plate size. Try to eat off a smaller plate. Fool yourself!)

3) When you are on line for your meal, consider the choices and decide what the best low-calorie options are available before you even get to the front of the line. For example, you want a burger, but have it without the bun. Skip the pie and eat the fruit. Whatever you choose, think before you act! This will help you stay in check with your portion control.

4) Sit on the other side of room, far away from the sumptuous buffet. This way you can concentrate and enjoy what you are eating and you won’t be temped to go for a second round.

5) Socialize at the party by mingling with the guests. Chat instead of chew. The food should always secondary to enjoying your friends and family. BBQ’s and summer cocktail parties are more about having fun!
